Reese and Cardoso experienced one of the most controversial episodes of the 2023-2024 NCAA season.

Angel Reese (R) and Kamilla Cardoso had an intense duel in the game...

Since she was in college basketball, Angel Reese has distinguished herself by her competitive nature. The Chicago Sky forward always plays with intensity, and that often generates friction with her rivals. However, the player also has great sportsmanship, as she demonstrated with Kamilla Cardoso.

Reese and Cardoso had some intense duels during their time in the NCAA. In the last one, in March 2024, a hair pull by Reese to Cardoso led to a pitched battle between the LSU Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The incident between Reese and Cardoso was not the immediate cause of the fight, but it did contribute to the tempers heating up before the fight. It took the referees nearly 20 minutes to calm things down, and the game ended with a 79-72 victory for Cardoso’s South Carolina on its way to the NCAA title.

Months after the embarrassing incident, Reese and Cardoso ended up becoming teammates on the Sky, and in light of that, Chi Barbie decided it was best to clear things up with her new teammate.

Reese’s apologies

In the most recent episode of her podcast Unapologetically Angel, Reese explained that it was all accidental. Furthermore, she assured that before the 2024 WNBA Draft, she called Cardosoto apologize for the incident.

“That was an accident. I was going for a rebound. It was something I wanted, I went to go get it, something was in my way, it was the wig. It was an accident, though,” Reese said.

The Sky star explained, “When I got to the draft, the first thing I made sure I did was apologize to Kamilla because I know we were going to be teammates. I was like, ‘Kamilla, I want to tell you this right now. I apologize for your wig.'”

No hard feelings between them

At the time, Cardoso explained that everything is water under the bridge. During a meeting with fans, one of them asked the Sky rookie who was better, her or Reese.

But the Chicago center did not take the bait“Man, why? Like, why? Nobody’s better than nobody. We’re all good,” Cardoso said, dismissing any rivalry between the two.

The campaign ended on a bittersweet note for Reese and the Sky. Although the rookie set several rebounding records for both a rookie and overall, her season ended earlier than expected with a wrist injury. Chicago also failed to make the playoffs, and now all that remains is to hope that the team has better luck next year.
