Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner were confused by their daughter Violet’s decision to keep his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez’s sister ‘close,’ according to sources who claim the actor was unaware they were meeting.

The duo raised eyebrows over the weekend after Lynda Lopez, 53, shared a selfie with the Yale student, 18, after paying her a visit at the private Ivy League university.

Violet, who was pictured with Lopez, 55, in the months after her split from Ben, 52, is determined to maintain her connection to the singer and her family and reached out to Lynda to arrange the catch-up.

‘Violet has a strong attachment to JLo and her family,’ an insider told DailyMail.com. ‘It’s quite confusing to Ben and Jen [Garner] because they do not understand why Violet is so adamant on keeping her close.’

The insider revealed that Violet invited Lynda, adding: ‘She looks up to JLo and Lynda and is intent on keeping the bond alive.

‘Violet said that she just reached out to her and said she wanted to come visit.’

Ben and Garner, 52, are aware that their daughter is old enough to decide who she wants to hang out with, but they took issue with the meet up being shared online.

‘The first time Ben saw this photo was online,’ the insider continued. ‘He wasn’t aware that Lynda was visiting. But Violet is an adult, and she is allowed to do as she pleases and spend time with who she wants to.

‘Ben and Jen feel Lynda and Violet could have spent time together and even taken a cute photo together without it going online for the world to see.’

The source noted that Violet was simply following in the footsteps of her parents, who have maintained a good relationship while co-parenting Violet and her siblings Serafina, now know as Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.

‘It is unfortunate that her dad didn’t work things out with JLo, but it also didn’t work out with her him and her mom, and she would rather keep the peace than have any issues,’ the source said. ‘Violet doesn’t want to lose that bond.’

Violet started school as a freshman at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut in September.

It came just weeks after Lopez, who has a second sister, Leslie Scholl, filed for divorce from Ben on August 20, marking what would have been their two year wedding anniversary.

The estranged couple have yet to finalize their divorce, but are currently promoting their new movie, Unstoppable.

Ben co-produced the sports drama with his best pal Matt Damon, 54, as part of their Artists Equity production company, with Lopez playing one of the leads.

The singer-turned-actress has already received rave reviews for her performance, one of which came from her ex-husband.

On Sunday, the Oscar-winner broke his silence in the wake of their split to praise her ‘spectacular’ performance.

Ben and Lopez made headlines in 2021 when they rekindled their romance, nearly 17 years after calling off their original engagement and postponing their September 2003 wedding.

They confirmed their relationship on Instagram that July and made their red carpet return at the Venice Film Festival, and subsequently exchanged vows at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022.

They tied the knot for a second time the following month at Affleck’s estate in Savannah, Georgia.
