Harry Kane has revealed that he’d “love” to play in the NFL once his footballing career is over, as speculation surrounding his future and interest from Manchester United intensifies.

The Tottenham striker, 29, is currently on holiday in the United States after the end of Spurs’ wretched season in which they failed to qualify for Europe and once again went without a trophy. Kane still managed to score an outstanding 31 goals across all competitions which is part of why United boss Erik ten Hag is so intent on signing him, regardless of his £100million price tag.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is playing hardball, though, with Mirror Football learning that he’s prepared to ruthlessly deny Kane a move to Old Trafford, despite him having just 12 months left on his Spurs contract. The transfer saga surrounding the England captain is set to continue throughout the summer window, but Kane’s got his sights set on a future beyond the Premier League.

Appearing on Good Morning America this Wednesday, the NFL-loving star made it clear that he’s eager to “explore” the possibility of changing sports, having loved American football for the last decade. “It’s something I want to definitely explore,” Kane told host Michael Strahan, a former NFL player himself.

“I know it’ll be a lot of hard work, I’m not expecting to just rock up and start kicking field goals. It’d take a lot of practice, a lot of hard work but it’s something I’d love to do. The NFL is something I’ve been following for about 10 years now and I love it, so I’d love to give it a go.”

Kane’s latest comments expand on a hint which he dropped in December 2020. “I’m l ooking at the option of playing in the NFL one day. That would be a bucket list, a dream come true,” the talismanic goalscorer declared. ” There’s still a long way to go between now and that moment.

“But it’s something that I’ve got one eye on. And who knows, towards the end of my career, I might take it a little bit more seriously. See how I’d go about that. You never know.”

As he’s risen to stardom through English football, Kane has also helped the NFL grow on home shores. Tottenham have hosted a multiple American football matches and earlier this month, the 29-year-old appeared in a promotional video as the NFL announced its lineup for the 2023 London games, two of which will take place Spurs’ home ground, with one at Wembley Stadium.

Kane has even become good friends with the man considered to be the best NFL player of all-time, Tom Brady, making him a New England Patriots supporter. “I was following him on Instagram and he commented on one of my pictures – I slid into his DMs!” he explained on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“He’s a great guy, we got talking. I’m an NFL fan so I was wishing him luck for the season and yeah, we just grew a relationship from there.”

As far as his next career move is concerned, Kane refused to be drawn on his future after scoring twice for Spurs on the final day of the Premier League season against Leeds. “That’s part and parcel of being a footballer, especially when you’re at the top of your game,” he told BT Sport.

“I’ve just been focusing on this season and trying to help the team as much as possible. To score a couple today was nice, to finish that way, but all in all I’m just looking forward to a nice break and then a couple of games with England.”
