Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s circle reached out to Kamala Harris’s team with the idea that the tight end could potentially either speak or appear at the DNC

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has faced swirling rumors as to where he stands on the political aisle.

However, he has seemingly quashed any remaining questions over where his political leanings lie after reports surfaced that his circle reached out to Kamala Harris’s campaign about appearing at the DNC.

CBS’s Gayle King reported the Kelce news live on air in the buildup to night four of the DNC, amid rumors that his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, may attend the final day in Chicago as a mystery speaker. Ultimately, the pop star was not in attendance.

King said: “The Taylor Swift rumor is interesting to me because I was told a couple of days ago that Travis Kelce also had reached out to the Harris campaign when it was first announced and said he wanted to be here on the night that she was speaking…we’ll see if that’s true.”

“I think he has a game tonight,” said someone sitting next to King, referencing the Chiefs preseason home game against the Chicago Bears.

“I know he has a game but that doesn’t mean that he’s playing,” King said before a co-anchor chimed in with, “You look like you know something.”

King was half-right: Kelce was not playing in the Chiefs game. However, he was present on the sidelines with a clean-shaven beard and a long mustache. He came out of the tunnel donning a retro USA Basketball t-shirt.

While he was not able to by at the DNC, CBS’ claim that he reached out when the Harris campaign was first announced makes it conceivable he wanted to attend, only for the dates to not line up and make it a practical reality.

In April, Kelce confused many over his political leanings by liking an Instagram post featuring outspoken conservative Sportscenter host Sage Steele alongside Donald Trump at a UFC event.

He also said “Oh, yeah! Always, man! Crazy opportunity!” when asked about the possibility of meeting then-President Trump following Kansas City’s 2020 Super Bowl victory.

This reinforced the conspiracy theories that dominated this year’s Super Bowl. Right-wing X user and popular Trump supporter Mike Crispi summed up a common take on the conspiracy: “The NFL is totally RIGGED for the Kansas City Chiefs, Taylor Swift, Mr. Pfizer (Travis Kelce).

“All to spread DEMOCRAT PROPAGANDA. Calling it now: KC wins, goes to Super Bowl, Swift comes out at the halftime show and ‘endorses’ Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield. It’s all been an op since day one.”

Various right-wing political and media figures amplified baseless conspiracy theories around the Super Bowl focused on Kelce and Swift, including former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, activist Laura Loomer and TV host Alison Steinberg.

Swift was largely outspoken on politics until 2018 when she publically declared she was voting for Democratic Tennessee Senate candidate Phil Bredesen against Marsha Blackburn. The hit country singer endorsed President Joe Biden and Vice-President Harris back in 2020 but has yet to comment on the 2024 presidential election.
