The Michigan Wolverines have a new head coach in Sherrone Moore, who replaced Jim Harbaugh following the latter’s return to the NFL.
Moore only just finalized his coaching staff, having snagged running backs coach Tony Alford from rivals Ohio State. However, he has another hole to plug and is in need of a defensive line coach as Greg Scruggs has resigned.
Scruggs tendered his resignation this Thursday, five days after he was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Ann Arbor.
ESPN reports that Moore confirmed said resignation and revealed he’s received notice pointing to such but could not comment on it because it is “a university matter.”
Statement from Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore regarding Greg Scruggs:
“I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately. I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter.”

According to a report from the Ann Arbor Police, Scruggs was stopped around 2:15 AM on March 16 after an officer saw his car in an intersection with the hazard lights on. The coach told the lawmen he had only consumed two alcoholic beverages and had been to two restaurants. He also claimed he was not familiar with the area and was tired from working late.
He was arrested after being put through a field sobriety test.
The Michigan Wolverines Took Action Following Scruggs’ Arrest
Scruggs, 33, registered blood alcohol levels of .16 and .17 in two tests at the police station, double the legal limit in Michigan. The Wolverines, who opened spring practice on Monday, decided to suspend him thereafter.
Moore said on Saturday that the coach had made “an unfortunate mistake” and “has taken accountability for his actions.”
